correct me if i’m wrong

I quit my job today

I am leaving my job at IBM (on good terms). Overall, my experience was positive and my team has been very encouraging of my decision. My excitement is physically palpable, though, and I eagerly anticipate future endeavors. Excuse me for romanticizing, but I can’t help thinking, “today is the first day of the rest of my life.” :)

Goals for 2009

I recently became a believer in making oneself accountable for one’s goal by communicating them to others. I feel this blog is a good medium to express such things. Here is my list of goals for 2009:

Personal Development

  1. Blog an average of once a week. This means at least 52 blog posts; this is the second of this year (yes, I am counting “junk” posts).
  2. Read one book every two weeks.
  3. Continue to lift weights three times a week.
  4. Continue to practice salsa dancing at least once a week.

Technically

  1. Release the fitness application I have been developing to the public (more details to come).
  2. Build Wordisms to a satisfactory level.
  3. Become well-versed in information retrieval, information extraction and machine learning.
  4. Teach or tutor computer science to students (anywhere from middle- or high-school to college).

Career-wise

  1. This is a tough one. I’d like to be able to live in city. The most logical choice is San Francisco.

EDIT: Added item #4 to “Technically.”
